California's AB 2943—the so-called "conversion therapy" bill that was so broad it would have stifled churches and silenced people just telling their own stories—received deservedly harsh backlash from around the country. While it was expected to breeze through the California legislature to Governor Jerry Brown’s desk, it was pulled at the last second by the bill's original sponsor, Evan Low. He said he respected the concerns of religious groups. Will a slightly different version be back? Time will tell.

The Daily Signal: Pennsylvania Agency Goes Around Legislature to Impose Gender Ideology

The Pennsylvania Human Relations Commission recently issued new guidance on the state anti-discrimination law. It announced that "sex" means “sex assigned at birth, sexual orientation, transgender identity, gender transition, and/or gender expression.” The agency bypassed the Pennsylvania legislature and voters, and Monica Burke says this is just one of many examples of progressives twisting laws to mean what they do not say.

South Carolina made significant strides earlier this year to guarantee that government funds would not go to abortion providers. But a district court judge put a stop to the governor’s executive order withholding Medicaid funding. The state has now sent a proposal to the Department of Health and Human Services, asking for permission to defund the abortion industry in the state.
