What is this strange obsession so many in our nation have with silencing opinions they disagree with? It’s not like there aren’t other options – open and reasonable debate, the verdict of the ballot box, the simple option of ignoring those with whom one doesn’t see eye to eye. But none of those alternatives seem to gratify the increasingly belligerent set whose own positions and beliefs are apparently too tenuous, frail, or insecure to withstand thoughtful opposition.
