Walsh v. City of Westminster

Last Updated 5/29/2020

Police in the city of Westminster, Md., insisted that participants in Defend Life's "Face the Truth" 2008 tour needed permits to peacefully share their pro-life message on a public street. Upon contacting the Westminster Police Department more than two weeks before the event in order to ensure its legality, Defend Life director Elizabeth Walsh was informed that the organization would need permits from the city and the Maryland State Highway Administration, in addition to permission from the owner of a nearby shopping center. Walsh was then told that the permits would be denied, but refused to offer an explanation.
