Concerned students/UC-Davis

Last Updated: 6/2/2020

Overview

Summary

After receiving a letter from an ADF-allied attorney, University of California Davis officials agreed to either revise or eliminate a problematic definition of religious discrimination that characterized Christians as oppressors of non-Christians. The UC-Davis policy defined "Religious/Spiritual Discrimation" in its "Principles of Community Glossary" as "The loss of power and privilege to those who do not practice the dominant culture's religion. In the United States, this is institutionalized oppressions toward those who are not Christian." ADF-allied attorney Tim Swickard sent UC-Davis officials a letter on behalf of more than 25 concerned students.
