House passes extreme legislation abolishing commonsense abortion regulations

US Senate

The following quote may be attributed to Alliance Defending Freedom Senior Counsel Denise Burke regarding the U.S. House of Representatives’ passage Friday of the so-called “Women’s Health Protection Act,” legislation that does the opposite of its name by invalidating nearly every state law regulating abortion, thereby reducing health protections for women:

“Today the House of Representatives voted in favor of a bill that endangers women and unborn babies under the guise of ‘health care.’ The so-called ‘Women’s Health Protection Act’ prohibits most—if not all—of the reasonable state regulations on abortion currently in place. This legislation is just the latest example of the extreme lengths to which congressional Democrats will go to cater to abortionists. In fact, the bill’s authors went so far as to propose abortion be treated similarly to routine procedures like colonoscopies when it comes to implementing safety measures. Such an irrational categorization of abortion is devastating to both women and their babies. Every innocent human life is valuable, precious, and worthy of full protection. We commend the many members of Congress who have taken a stand against this destructive legislation, and we will continue to fight alongside them to ensure policies are enacted that truly support women and protect innocent life.”
