Summary
Following the filing of a lawsuit by ADF attorneys, the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture agreed not to force a Mennonite farmer to compromise his religious beliefs. Officials attempted to require James Landis, who for more than 20 years has exported live birds to New York markets, to submit to having a federal identification number in order to do business. Such a requirement would violate Landis' sincerely-held religious beliefs.
