News You Should Know: Running Away with the Competition

By Michael Farris, Jr. posted on:

How do most Americans feel about biological males competing in girls’ sports? And how do the parents of female athletes feel? We break it down in this week’s post. Also, a presidential candidate threatens to increase taxes on religious institutions, and California passes a law forcing universities to provide deadly abortion pills. All of this from the Alliance Alert team.

New York Post: ‘Justice’ for trans athletes is unfair to girls like my daughter

Science has shown that biologically male athletes have a natural advantage over female athletes, but what those studies don't quantify is the front-row view of a mother seeing her daughter come up short to a transgender athlete. Cheryl Radachowsky writes at New York Post how her daughter, Alanna Smith, has spent hours dedicated to hard work and practice—only to see biologically male athletes beat her to the finish line. While many parents and girls are voicing how unfair the competition has become, high school organizations like the Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference have allowed boys to claim a female identity and compete in girls' sports. Now, they are literally running away with competitions and records that have previously belonged to women, and Radachowsky says she can no longer stay silent with her daughter's—and many other daughters'—dreams at stake.

Religious Freedom

Fox News: Beto threatens tax-exempt status of churches if they don't support gay marriage

U.S. Presidential candidate Beto O'Rourke said last week that churches should lose their tax-exempt status if they do not support same-sex marriage. During a townhall event hosted by CNN and radical LGBT activist group Human Rights Campaign, O'Rourke said, "There can be no reward, no benefit, no tax break for anyone or any institution, any organization in America, that denies the full human rights and the full civil rights of every single one of us," which drew criticism from religious freedom advocates—and even one CNN political commentator who said, "This isn't going to help win the electoral college."

The Daily Caller: Here’s What Americans Think About Transgender Athletes In Girls’ Sports

A recent poll shows the majority of Americans believe that biologically male athletes have a "competitive advantage" over female athletes. The poll showed that people from all political backgrounds believe that men have an advantage. Overall, 57% agreed to the statement, while 20% disagreed and 23% gave no opinion. Peter Hasson of The Daily Caller writes this puts politicians who support the so-called "Equality Act" out of touch with most Americans, since the proposed law would allow biological males to compete in women's sports.

National Review: California Mandates Free Abortion at Public Colleges

California Gov. Gavin Newsome recently signed a bill into law that forces state universities to provide abortion pills to female students at the expense of millions of taxpayer dollars. When former Gov. Jerry Brown was brought the same legislation, he declined to sign, pointing out there is no significant barrier to students with abortion facilities only a few miles off campus. Gov. Newsome, however, said he wants his state to move forward on a "woman's right to choose"—a strange choice of words considering the risks involved. Alexandra Desanctis of National Review reveals that the drug to be administered, Mifeprex, has caused 24 deaths confirmed by the FDA.
