The following quote may be attributed to Alliance Defending Freedom Legal Counsel Sara Beth Nolan regarding Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves’ signing Thursday of HB 188, a bill that protects women by prohibiting male inmates from invading spaces where women are most vulnerable—such as changing rooms, sleeping quarters, and restrooms—at correctional facilities:
“States have a duty to protect the privacy, safety, and dignity of women. Letting men intrude into women’s spaces is an invasion of privacy, a threat to their safety, and a denial of the real biological differences between the two sexes. HB 188 safeguards against these harms to women in Mississippi correctional facilities. ADF commends Rep. Gene Newman and the Mississippi Legislature for their leadership on this bill, and Gov. Reeves for signing it into law. We also thank the Mississippi Advocacy Group for its monumental work on this effort to protect all women in Mississippi.”
