The Equality Act Threatens Your Freedoms
Update: House of Representatives passes Equality Act. ADF is prepared to defend your freedoms. Stand with us, today.
The “Equality Act” has nothing to do with true equality
In February 2021, the Equality Act was introduced in Congress.
With a Democrat-controlled Congress, the passage of this legislation is more likely than ever before. And President Joe Biden campaigned on the promise that he would sign this bill into law within his first 100 days if passed.
While “equality” sounds nice, the name of this bill is misleading. Of course, as Americans, we believe that every person is equal under the law. But if passed, this bill would create a situation where the opposite of this is true for people of faith.
The Equality Act should be concerning to people like you who value religious freedom and true equality.
That’s why Alliance Defending Freedom is preparing for the consequences of the Equality Act in case it passes. Will you help us?
What the Equality Act will mean for your freedoms
What will this bill do if signed into law?
Simply put, it will add “sexual orientation” and “gender identity” as protected classes to many federal nondiscrimination laws. And though “nondiscrimination” sounds good in the abstract, that isn’t what this bill is truly about.
The bill would prohibit employers and even religious schools and organizations from making choices based on basic biology, bodily privacy, and their beliefs about the nature of marriage. It would apply to every single recipient of federal financial assistance (including every public school and almost all colleges and universities.)
It would pose devastating and unprecedented threats to free speech, religious freedom, and the progress that women have made toward true equal treatment under the law.
Your support today will help us be ready for this outcome.
Stand Against the Equality Act Today
The so-called “Equality Act” doesn’t live up to its name. Not at all.
It is a deliberate attempt to force people of faith—good people who serve everyone—to promote messages and celebrate events that conflict with their sincere beliefs.
Not only that, it would threaten the equal treatment of women and upend the bedrock understanding of male and female in the law.
Alliance Defending Freedom has already been standing up for religious freedom, free speech, and fairness in women’s sports with great success. We will keep standing for our God-given freedoms if Congress passes and President Biden signs the Equality Act into law.
But we cannot continue this without your support. Will you take a stand for your freedoms and give now?
...for religious freedom

Churches and religious nonprofits
could be denied the freedom to only employ people who live out their religious beliefs about marriage, sexual morality, and the distinction between the sexes.

Religious foster care and adoption agencies
could be threatened with closure if they operate according to their deeply held belief that the best place for a child is a home with a married mother and father.

Creative professionals and other business owners
who simply want to live and work according to their beliefs could be forced to choose between creating messages against those beliefs or shutting their doors.

Individuals
may be forced to speak messages, such as using transgender pronouns, that violate their beliefs under the threat of punishment.
...for women

It would force women to share private spaces with men
like what an Anchorage commission threatened to do to the Downtown Hope Center in Anchorage, Alaska, which serves women who need critical services, many of whom have suffered rape, sex trafficking, and domestic violence.

It could undermine equal opportunities for women in athletics
like this policy in Connecticut which forced female athletes to compete against biological males who have an undeniable and unfair physical advantage.
