Officials in the village of Fife Lake, Mich., required churches and religious organizations to pay discriminatory rental fees to use the village’s municipal building, while providing free access to other community groups, including the American Legion, Rotary Club and Kiwanis Clubs and the Boy and Girl Scouts of America. After filing suit, ADF attorneys secured a settlement and reimbursement of rental fees for Forest Area Bible Church.
