Few things can be more shocking for a woman and her family than an unplanned pregnancy. It’s a monumental moment that can easily be both incredibly joyful and full of trepidation.

It can also be a moment when women and their unborn children simply need help. Whether it’s emotional support, supplies, more information, or just an ear to listen, every little bit helps.

Aimee Huber, the executive director of First Choice Women’s Resource Centers in New Jersey, knows just how important life-affirming help can be for these women. In fact, it has become her life’s work.

Little did Aimee know that this work would draw the ire of her state’s attorney general.

Who is Aimee Huber?

Aimee Huber has been with First Choice for over 30 years.

Aimee is the daughter of a pastor. Her father would often preach sermons about the sanctity of life, and from a young age, it impacted Aimee deeply. Her father’s sermons helped Aimee realize just how much she wanted to help women facing unplanned pregnancies.

“I did grow up in a Christian home,” Aimee explained during her appearance on the Strong Women podcast. “It was a wonderful Christian home and I am so thankful for that.”

Fast forward, and Aimee is now the executive director of First Choice—a faith-based, pro-life pregnancy center with five locations in New Jersey. It’s a ministry that Aimee is deeply passionate about.

“Right from that start, it was a calling for me,” Aimee said. “It was just something that just convicted my heart, that this was something I could give my life to, in helping women and babies.”

Aimee remembers how, in high school, the prior director for First Choice had shown up for one of her father’s services to share her story, and that’s when the seeds were first planted.

Aimee began her pro-life work by being trained as a volunteer training before going off to college, but after she graduated, she returned home to New Jersey to continue serving in an even greater capacity.

Aimee soon began volunteering at First Choice. At first, she only worked Monday nights, but that soon turned into a staff position.

How do Aimee and First Choice help women and children?

First Choice offers educational and material resources to families in need

First Choice has five locations in New Jersey, and all of them strive to provide the same high-quality support to women facing unplanned pregnancies. First Choice provides educational and material resources, like baby clothes, maternity clothes, and food, to families in need.

In 2024 alone, pregnancy centers provided services valued at over $452million. This includes over 630,000 free ultrasounds, 230,000 STD tests, 6.3 million packs of diapers, 39,000 car seats, and more.

In First Choice’s home state of New Jersey, pregnancy centers have provided over $3 million worth of free materials and services to more than 23,000 women and men.

To say that First Choice goes above and beyond to help and support families facing unplanned pregnancies would be an understatement.

Just as importantly, First Choice doesn’t charge its clients for its services. Instead, the ministry relies on the generosity of its donors.

And those donors’ First Amendment freedoms are now at risk thanks to the actions of New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin.

The New Jersey government targets Aimee Huber and First Choice

Despite First Choice’s good work, the ministry has drawn the ire of the pro-abortion New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin. In November 2023, Platkin issued a sweeping subpoena demanding that First Choice turn over vast amounts of information, including the names and contact information of its donors, despite not producing a single donor or client complaint against the ministry. Rather, Platkin based this intrusive subpoena on a ridiculous premise: that First Choice’s donors may have been fooled into contributing without realizing that First Choice—a pro-life pregnancy center—does not perform abortions.

Thankfully, Aimee saw the silver lining in Platkin’s targeted harassment of First Choice.

“When we were served a subpoena … I knew this was bigger than us,” Aimee said. “And I knew that if we didn’t stand up, that other pregnancy centers would be harassed and targeted, and I couldn’t let that happen.

“So, I’m just thankful, in a sense.”

Aimee’s optimism is an encouragement to pregnancy centers across the nation, but that still doesn’t negate the harm that Platkin is looking to do to First Choice. Dozens of pro-life pregnancy centers have been firebombed, vandalized, and threatened—all because they won’t support the violent act of abortion. Platkin’s subpoena could expose countless donors to that sort of venom, threatening First Choice’s vital work and making the First Amendment freedom to associate a pipe dream.

For those reasons, ADF has helped defend Aimee and First Choice, and has taken this unlawful subpoena all the way to the Supreme Court. Oral arguments were heard on December 2, 2025.

Even in the face of government harassment, Aimee Huber knows how important her work is

Aimee and First Choice offer truth, love, lack of judgment, and compassionate care.

Despite the challenges facing both her and her work, Aimee is still fully committed to her cause because it’s a cause worth staying committed to—especially in New Jersey, where abortions are permitted through all 9 months of pregnancy.

“We have no restrictions on abortions,” Aimee explained on the Strong Women podcast. “So there’s no parental consent, there’s no informed consent, there’s no 24-hour waiting period. Nothing like that.”

These women need care, compassion, and information about all of their options—not an expedited off-ramp towards abortion. And that care and compassion is exactly the type of aid that Aimee Huber and First Choice will continue to give.

“What I love about our ministry is that we’re boots on the ground,” explains Aimee. “We’re helping women who think they have no other choice [than to get an abortion].

“And so I’m going to continue doing that regardless of what the law is, regardless of what the legislation shows, because they’re the ones that need help.”

Aimee added: “We are here with truth and love and lack of judgment and compassionate care.”

And ADF will continue to be here for Aimee Huber and First Choice in the face of targeted governmental harassment. Will you also be here with us and give to make sure courageous clients like Aimee, First Choice, and pregnancy centers across the country can continue to do their good work?
