The following quote may be attributed to Alliance Defending Freedom Senior Counsel Christiana Kiefer regarding Sen. Tommy Tuberville’s introduction Wednesday of the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act, a bill that protects women’s sports by clarifying that allowing males to compete on women’s teams violates Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 for federally funded schools and colleges:

“Girls shouldn’t be sidelined in their own sports. Women fought long and hard for equal athletic opportunities and allowing males to compete in girls’ sports reverses 50 years of advances secured for women under Title IX. Radical activists—including members of the Biden administration—are undermining the purpose of Title IX by pretending biological differences are irrelevant or non-existent. As we continue to witness increasing incidents nationwide of males dominating girls’ athletic competitions, it is imperative to affirm that biology, not identity, is what matters in athletics. Eighteen states have acknowledged this important but simple truth by enacting laws that preserve fair competition for female athletes. We commend Sen. Tuberville and his colleagues for joining this movement by introducing the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act. This commonsense legislation would ensure that women and girls in all 50 states will have equal opportunities to experience the thrill of victory.”
