The following quote may be attributed to Alliance Defending Freedom Senior Counsel Zack Pruitt regarding Indiana Gov. Eric Holcomb’s signing Thursday of HB 1212, a bill that protects the private information of individuals who support charities and other nonprofit organizations of their choice:

“Every American should be free to peacefully support causes they believe in without fear of harassment or intimidation. We have seen states irresponsibly mandate disclosures that endanger donors, foster a culture of doxing, and discourage charitable giving. HB 1212 is an important step in guaranteeing privacy protections for Indiana donors, consistent with the U.S. Supreme Court’s decision in Thomas More Law Center v. Bonta, which affirmed that the First Amendment’s promise of ‘free association’ includes the right to privacy in financial giving. Everyone deserves a voice, not merely those able to weather abuse. We commend Gov. Holcomb and the Indiana Legislature for taking a stand for the ability of individuals to privately support charities and other nonprofit organizations of their choice without unnecessary government interference and the resulting harassment that can ensue.”
