Senior Counsel
Zachary Tyree serves as senior counsel on Alliance Defending Freedom’s Appellate Advocacy Team. He represents ADF’s clients before federal and state appellate courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court.
Prior to joining ADF, Tyree held multiple positions in private practice and the federal government. As an associate at Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP, he helped a diverse group of clients—including top Fortune 500 companies—navigate significant legal issues in complex civil litigation across state and federal courts. His practice focused on legal strategy, dispositive motions, and appeals. Tyree also served as an attorney-adviser in the Office of Legal Counsel at the U.S. Department of Justice, which advises the president and all executive branch agencies on a wide range of legal issues.
Tyree served as a law clerk to Justice Amy Coney Barrett of the U.S. Supreme Court, Judge Jeffrey S. Sutton of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit, and Judge Joan L. Larsen of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Sixth Circuit. He graduated with highest honors from George Washington University Law School, where he served as a managing editor of the Law Review. During law school, Tyree participated in the Blackstone Legal Fellowship and was commissioned a Blackstone Fellow. He earned a bachelor’s degree in history from Liberty University, graduating summa cum laude.
Tyree is a member of the Virginia and District of Columbia bars and is admitted to practice before the U.S. Supreme Court and multiple federal courts of appeals.
