The following quote may be attributed to Alliance Defending Freedom President, CEO, and Chief Counsel Kristen Waggoner regarding a letter ADF and eight other organizations sent to the White House Friday asking it to disavow the Southern Poverty Law Center, a move the Trump administration welcomed:
“Let’s pronounce the SPLC’s credibility finished once and for all. For too long, media, corporations, and government gave this radical and dishonest organization power to target and silence conservatives on its bogus ‘Hate List’—the same list that smeared Charlie Kirk just last year. We’re grateful for the swift action of the FBI in cutting ties with this fraudulent group that recklessly uses the ‘hate’ label to silence opponents. As we wrote in the letter, enough is enough. The SPLC’s defamatory Hate Map should no longer be used by federal agencies as a fig leaf to mask discrimination against conservatives.”
Specifically, the letter calls on President Donald Trump to issue an executive order to remove any past use of SPLC data from all federal agency websites, documents, and work product; prohibit any future use of any SPLC data on federal agency websites, documents, and work product; and prohibit federal funds from going to government contractors who use the SPLC’s work product to determine which organizations or groups the contractor will use as a subcontractor or to which it will provide funding or services.
Alliance Defending Freedom is an alliance-building, non-profit legal organization committed to protecting religious freedom, free speech, parental rights, and the sanctity of life.
