Summary

In 2006, Todd Netherland, a Christian man, attempted to peacefully sharing his religious faith on a public easement outside a bar in Baton Rouge, La. A police officer ordered Netherland to stand on the far side of the easement or face arrest. In 2009, a federal court ruled that Baton Rouge’s use of an ordinance barring “annoying” and “offensive” speech violated Mr. Netherland’s First Amendment rights.
