Hundreds of thousands of children are in the foster care system. Many of them bounce from home to home. All they want is a stable, positive place to live and grow up.
Yet, states struggle to find enough homes to provide for these children. What’s worse—some states have denied qualified families a foster license
Why?
Because these states have policies demanding foster parents agree to promote the state’s gender ideology to their foster child, even if gender ideology goes against the parents’ religious beliefs, and even if the child is an infant or a toddler that doesn’t know what gender identity is.
The government can’t legally deny qualified parents a chance to foster a child because they don’t agree with the state’s message about sexual and gender identities.
Religious freedom belongs to everyone.
Thank you! Not allowing parents the opportunity to foster children because of their religious beliefs is wrong. You’ve taken the first step to defend the freedom of religion.
The First Amendment ensures that families who just want to serve children in need can’t be forced to change their beliefs and embrace the state’s gender ideology.
Yet, this is exactly what’s happening in states like Vermont, Oregon, and Washington.
For instance, the Vermont Department for Children and Families instituted a new policy demanding parents “support children’s identities even if it feels uncomfortable,” use pronouns inconsistent with their children’s sex, and take children to events like pride parades.
When the Wuoti and Gantt families would not compromise their Christian beliefs in support of this new policy, the department revoked their foster care licenses.
Now, the two families have joined together to stop the Vermont Department for Children and Families from putting ideology above the needs of vulnerable kids.
The Constitution protects everyone’s right to live out their religious beliefs—states can’t arbitrarily exclude or punish you because they don’t agree.
If this religious discrimination isn’t stopped, it could have far-reaching consequences for American society and our constitutional rights.
It may only get worse if we don’t put an end to it.
That’s why Alliance Defending Freedom is fighting back. We work each day on behalf of everyday Americans to protect and defend religious freedom.
And we argue crucial cases across the nation at every level—even all the way to the U.S. Supreme Court.
