A Michigan school district began treating Dan and Jennifer Mead’s middle-school daughter as if she were a boy…without their knowledge or consent.

School employees used male pronouns and a masculine name when referring to her at school, and then scrubbed any reference to the new name and pronouns in the documents provided to the parents. They also were sure to use the daughter’s real name in conversations with the Meads.

The Meads accidentally discovered what was happening in secret at school when an employee shared a record that had only been partially altered. You can imagine how upset the Meads were when they discovered the school was actively deceiving them about treating their daughter as a boy.

This is an obvious violation of their rights and role as parents.

Parents, not the government, have the right and duty to raise and educate their children.

Schools need to be held accountable when they violate parents’ rights.
