Help Defend the Lives of Brothers and Sisters in Christ Standing for the Truth

When Hamouda became a Christian, he faced immense opposition.

His wife, Nada, was still Muslim at the time, and her family was shocked. When Hamouda converted to Christianity, Nada’s family applied immense pressure for her and their children to abandon Hamouda and return to live with her family. In Sudan, the Sharia court dissolved their marriage, deeming it unlawful for a Muslim woman to be married to a Christian man.

But by God’s providence, Nada later became a Christian, too—and reunited with her husband.

The prosecutors wanted to charge them with apostasy—the “crime” of converting from Islam to Christianity. But apostasy had just recently been decriminalized in Sudan. So instead, the prosecutors got creative.

They dragged Nada and Hamouda before a Sharia Court and argued that they should face criminal punishment for their Christian faith because they had reunited as a married couple despite their conversions invalidating their marriage under Sharia law.

Technically they were charging them with criminal adultery simply because they had converted to Christianity while married. The couple was now facing potentially life-threatening punishments.

These charges of adultery were sham charges—it was because they converted to Christianity that they were facing this persecution.

Thankfully, a friend of Hamouda’s was able to connect him with two ADF International allies and we fought tirelessly for Hamouda and Nada in court. But it soon became clear that the threats the couple faced were too great. Even if the Sharia courts pardoned them, Nada’s brother had vowed publicly to kill them.

We had to get them out before it was too late.

By a miracle of God’s grace ADF International was able to get Hamouda, Nada, and their three children to safety, despite many obstacles. Now, their family is safe and attending a church here in the U.S.

But around the world, many more of our brothers and sisters in Christ face similar persecution for their faith under laws that don’t protect their God-given freedoms. As Christians, we’ve been given the greatest gift of all—the grace of God—and we’ve also been called to share the news of this great gift with every tribe, tongue, and nation.

Will you stand with us today to defend people of faith in courts around the world as they share and live out the Gospel? Please give a gift of $25, $50, $75, $100, or more today.
