Stand with Teacher Deb Figliola to Keep Parents Informed About Their Children

When Deb Figliola, a teacher in Harrisonburg, Virginia, was asked to lie to parents about their own children, she knew she had to stand for what’s right.

She just could not deceive parents about her students.

Deb teaches special education and English to middle schoolers who are reading and writing significantly below their level. And she absolutely loves what she does.

But after the Harrisonburg City Public School Board instituted a new policy that upended parents’ right to direct the upbringing of their children, she knew she had to challenge the board’s violations of parents’ rights.

According to school’s policy, if a child questions his or her gender, school staff are to immediately comply with any requests for opposite sex names and pronouns, without consulting their parents and in some cases while actively keeping the information about the child’s struggle from his or her parents. School officials even encourage faculty to mislead and deceive parents about what’s going on at school.

Stand with Deb and other parents and teachers of Harrisonburg who refuse to let the vital role of parents be usurped. Federal, state, and local governments are increasingly pushing policies influenced by gender ideology and driving a wedge between parents and their children.

In the midst of children’s identity confusion, keeping parents in the dark only makes the problem worse.
