The following quote may be attributed to Alliance Defending Freedom Senior Counsel Julie Marie Blake regarding a friend-of-the-court brief ADF attorneys filed Wednesday in Slaughter v. Trump, a case in which two former Federal Trade Commission commissioners sued President Trump for firing them. ADF attorneys filed the brief on behalf of Christian Employers Alliance, which has members subject to the FTC and which recently moved to intervene in another case to defend the president’s firing of an Equal Employment Opportunity Commission official who imposed harmful gender-identity and abortion mandates:

“Federal executive agencies are subject to the president, who has the constitutional authority to remove policy-setting officials who do not reflect his priorities. Agencies are not independent; the Constitution ensures that they are accountable to the president and, ultimately, the American people. This case has the potential to set an important precedent confirming the president’s authority to supervise and remove policy-setting officials at many so-called independent agencies, like the FTC and the EEOC. We urge the courts to maintain the balance of power found in the Constitution and allow the president to appoint and remove policy-setting federal officials.”
