Alliance Defending Freedom protects pro-life pregnancy centers because we CARE about women, babies, and their families.

According to recent polls, 91% of Americans support pregnancy centers. But sadly, we’ve seen growing instances of government officials actively seeking to undermine these centers and impede their efforts to serve their communities.

When the body of Christ supports these centers, we can create a culture of life and care for pregnant women.

Women deserve real care

The truth about pregnancy centers

According to a report from the Charlotte Lozier Institute, in 2022, more than 2,750 pregnancy care centers provided hope and tangible care to women in need. These pregnancy centers and others like them serve women and families across the United States and even globally.

The truth about Planned Parenthood

Planned Parenthood continues to prioritize its abortion profits over the health and well-being of women and children. In fact, 97% of Planned Parenthood’s “pregnancy resolution services” were composed of abortions, while only 1.6% could be attributed to prenatal services, miscarriage care, and adoption referrals.

Pregnancy care center lawsuits

Alliance Defending Freedom is protecting pregnancy centers by defending their right to speak their pro-life messages and operate free from government harassment. Over its history, ADF has provided legal assistance to over 2,000 pregnancy centers and played a role in 18 pro-life victories at the Supreme Court, including the landmark 2018 win NIFLA v. Becerra defending pregnancy centers’ right to free speech.

Abortion pill reversal

Statistics indicate that abortion pill reversal (APR) has likely saved the lives of over 5,000 unborn children, but some abortion advocates are trying to ban it. ADF attorneys have filed lawsuits across the country to protect the First Amendment rights of pro-life pregnancy centers and ensure women have access to information about APR.

California Attorney General Rob Bonta is trying to prevent pregnancy centers from speaking about abortion pill reversal. ADF attorneys filed a lawsuit challenging the attorney general’s censorship on behalf of NIFLA and SCV Pregnancy Center.
New York Attorney General Letitia James is prosecuting 11 faith-based pro-life pregnancy centers in state court for speaking truthfully and positively about APR. ADF is representing NIFLA, Gianna’s House, and Options Care Center pushing back in federal court against this attack on the First Amendment.
New Jersey Attorney General Matthew Platkin issued a subpoena demanding that First Choice Women’s Resource Centers turn over 10 years’ worth of documents, including its statements about APR.
Colorado Gov. Jared Polis signed a law that prohibits doctors and nurses from providing APR altogether and bars them from providing information about the process to their patients. ADF intervened in a lawsuit challenging that law on behalf of Chelsea Mynyk, a nurse practitioner who offers APR at her clinic.
Washington Attorney General Bob Ferguson opened a baseless and unconstitutional investigation into the Obria Group because he disagreed with its pro-life views and its speech about APR, but he backed off after ADF filed a lawsuit.

Free speech and employment

Some states have passed laws that prohibit pregnancy centers from advertising their services, or would force them to refer for abortion or hire those who do not share their pro-life beliefs. ADF is challenging these unjust laws so that pregnancy centers can live out their mission to help vulnerable women and save unborn lives.

In Vermont, a state law censors pregnancy centers from speaking freely about the services they provide and threatens fines of up to $10,000 for each violation.
ADF is challenging SB 1564, an Illinois law that would force pro-life doctors and pregnancy centers to refer for abortion.
New York is trying to force pro-life organizations like pregnancy centers to employ people who do not share their beliefs.

The CARE Act: a law to protect pregnancy centers

Alliance Defending Freedom is working with lawmakers to prevent government officials from impeding the life-saving mission of pregnancy care centers. The CARE (Center Autonomy and Rights of Expression) Act protects the life-saving mission and work of pregnancy centers.
