ADF Church Alliance releases election guide for churches
SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. – Alliance Defending Freedom’s Church Alliance has released “Five Things to Know: A Legal Guide for Churches” to prepare churches for the 2020 election. Because churches often receive conflicting information about what can be said or done during election season, the ADF Church Alliance developed the resource to clarify many common misconceptions.
The guide, available at www.2020LegalGuide.com, provides basic boundaries for approaching the upcoming election season, particularly the legal nuances of what pastors and people of faith can and cannot do on behalf of the church when it comes to engaging in the political arena. The guide will focus on five key areas: sermons and speeches, general education of voters, use of church facilities, lobbying, and financial support.
“We are grateful for every church leader who reads this guide and speaks biblical truth into the issues of the day,” said ADF Senior Counsel Ryan Tucker, director of the ADF Center for Christian Ministries. “Churches have a unique opportunity to encourage those under their care to act with Christian conviction and make their voices heard in the public square. ADF is here to let churches know they have robust religious liberty protections to enable them to do so.”
The ADF Church Alliance is an affordable membership program that serves as a hub for churches to receive governing document reviews; legal resources, advice, and counsel; and pro-bono representation in court, if appropriate and necessary.
Alliance Defending Freedom is an alliance-building, non-profit legal organization that advocates for the right of people to freely live out their faith.
