The #1 Thing Your Church Board Should Do Next and How It Can Help Protect Religious Freedom

Pedreira v. Kentucky Baptist Homes for Children

Last Updated 7/21/2022

Summary

In 2009, the U.S. Court of Appeals found that Sunrise Children's Service, a Baptist children's home, did not violate any state or federal laws when they chose to dismiss an employee who was engaged in homosexual behavior. The American Civil Liberties Union filed suit against the home, claiming that SCS was engaged in "religious discrimination" and should not be entitled to state and federal reimbursement because of its religious affiliation. ADF provided funding for attorneys with the Christian Legal Society and Thomas More Law Center to defend the home in the suit.
