Lemly v. St. Tammany Parish Hospital District No. 1

Last Updated: 5/29/2020

Overview

Summary

St. Tammany Parish Hospital refused to grant a reasonable accommodation for a pro-life nurse's religious beliefs, and instead terminated her full-time employment. ADF attorneys and an allied attorney filed a lawsuit on behalf of Toni Lemly, who objected to administering the so-called "morning-after" pill. In 2009, the Louisiana Supreme Court declined to hear the hospital's appeal of the case.
