Defend Life v. Montgomery County

Last Updated: 5/29/2020

Overview

Summary

Approximately 40 pro-life advocates with the group Defend Life were informed by a city official in Montgomery County, Md., that they were violating state and county laws that prohibit holding signs on a public sidewalk. The group was also told that they must remove the signs or pay a fine of $500 per sign. After ADF attorneys filed suit of behalf of the group, Montgomery County officials agreed to drop a written policy that banned citizens from holding signs.
