Security officers at Chemeketa Community College told Caleb Pearson, a student, that he could not distribute pro-life literature or display pro-life signs outdoors on campus. Further, Pearson was informed that they would have to get permission from campus officials in order to continue sharing his pro-life message, and, if approved to do so, restrict his communications to a small indoor "free speech" zone that consisted of a six-foot folding table.
This case could potentially put an end to government officials violating the First Amendment and ducking the consequences.
Public colleges and universities cannot require their students to get permission to exercise their First Amendment rights.
