This week, we take a look at a new case with a familiar story: Colorado violating the speech rights of a Christian creative professional. The case involves Lorie Smith, graphic and web designer, and owner of 303 Creative. Lorie wants to create custom wedding websites for her clients, but Colorado is compelling her to create and publish websites promoting views of marriage she disagrees with. Plus, religious adoption providers get a lifeline from the Trump administration, a mother speaks about losing her children to gender ideology, and a judge blocks Alabama’s pro-life law. All of this from the Alliance Alert team.

Disrn: My appeal for artistic freedom isn’t just for me, but for each of my competitors, too
Lorie Smith has put in long hours and hard work to start her small business, 303 Creative, where she creates custom websites. As a way to set herself apart from other web designers, Lorie spends time getting to know her clients, who they are, and what makes them tick. Her Christian faith guides every aspect of her life—including her work—so when she found out the state of Colorado bans her from discussing why there are certain projects she can't take on because of her religious beliefs, she decided to challenge the law. The state law, which Colorado used to pursue Masterpiece Cakeshop owner Jack Phillips, acts as a gag order against Lorie, so she is appealing to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 10th Circuit with the help of Alliance Defending Freedom. As Lorie writes at Disrn, no one should be silenced by the government because of their religious beliefs.
The Washington Examiner: Reversing Obama's adoption policies protects religious freedom and helps children
In the last moments of Obama's presidency, the administration passed a rule preventing religious adoption providers from receiving federal funds due to their religious belief that marriage is between one man and one woman. Now, the Trump administration—through the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS)—has reversed that rule, which allows adoption providers to place children in loving homes they so desperately need. Kaylee McGhee writes at The Washington Examiner that this move is a much-needed victory for religious freedom, and she warns that the ACLU's framing that the Trump administration is providing a "license to discriminate" is a dishonest representation of a constitutional action.
Marriage and the Family
What can other parents learn from a mother who has seen two of her own children choose to identify as the opposite sex? The Daily Signal interviews Lynn Meagher of Hands Across the Aisle. Meagher, whose son and daughter both rejected their biological sex during college, says the similarities between gender ideology and cults are plain to see. From mantras to breaking ties with family members, the two categories have more in common than most people realize, Meagher says. Meagher also shares practical advice for parents who might face a similar situation, including finding support for yourself, maintaining a relationship with your child, and seeking out counselors who do not give in to gender ideology.

National Review: Federal Judge Blocks Alabama Abortion Ban
U.S. District Judge Myron Thompson temporarily blocked an Alabama law that prevents abortion in most cases. The law, which was set to go into effect this month, would ban abortion unless the life of the mother is threatened, penalizing abortionists with up to 10 years imprisonment. Contrary to common claims, the law carries no penalty for women who seek an abortion. The injunction blocks the law until a current lawsuit between the ACLU and the state of Alabama is resolved.
