Male Athletes Are Running Fast to Cancel Girls’ Opportunities to Win in Sports

March 2, 2020

By: Walt Heyer

Connecticut’s “insane wokeness” allows males to self-identify as girls and compete in girls’ sports. The problem with this policy is simple: Boys are physically stronger, on average, than girls.

Now we see that two male high school sprinters have placed first and second in various state competitions in Connecticut. The Connecticut Interscholastic Athletic Conference (CIAC) is okay with this, as its policy allows male athletes who identify as female to compete without restrictions on the team of their “preferred gender.” This is ludicrous and portends the end of girls’ sports because male athletes will dominate and crush the female competition.

As a 14-year-old in the late 1950s, I ran the 660-yard dash at Eagle Rock High School near Los Angeles. I was fast and lean at 5’7” tall and 128 pounds. I worked out five days a week. In track competition, I was at the top of my game and one of fastest boys in California. No girl could compete with me. At that point, it was common knowledge that males were stronger, on average, than females.

Recently, Tia Ghose wrote in Live Science about the superior strength of men:

Men are physically stronger than women, on average. A study in the Journal of Applied Physiology found that men had an average of 26 lbs. (12 kilograms) more skeletal muscle mass than women. Women also exhibited about 40% less upper-body strength and 33% less lower-body strength, on average, the study found.

As a former trans-woman, I can speak to the real physical advantages retained by men who identify as women. I underwent what some could call my “sex reassignment surgery,” which caused my testosterone level to fall, but my innate male strength remained.

Let me give an example from my experience.

In my mid-40s, I was attending College of San Mateo in California under my new legal identity: Laura Jensen, female. For the mandatory physical education class, I chose women’s tennis. I was about the same weight as I was in high school but now I was playing against girls half my age. My swift service easily overpowered the young women who couldn’t return it. They were dismayed whenever I walked on the court. Sometimes they were humiliated by the power of my return shots. I delighted in bulldozing over my female competitors.

The stark truth on display in my performance on that tennis court back in the 1980s was this: Even the decrease of male hormones in my system could not diminish the strength-building effects of puberty on my male body. No amount of women’s hormones or surgery could ever magically morph my body into a biological female. You can take that to the DNA bank.

I had a man’s hands, larger than a female of the same weight and size. My legs were strong from running track in high school. It was easy for me to outrun, outgrip, and outpower the girls. A cute tennis dress couldn’t hide my clear advantage.

Several research studies back up my personal experience and detail how even “transgender women” with lowered testosterone levels continue to exhibit male strength.

The Real Discrimination Is Against Girls

The real discrimination is against girls, such as those in Connecticut, who are treated as if biological female sex is irrelevant and insignificant. The CIAC policy declares that a boy’s right to compete as a girl overrides every girl’s right to compete on a fair playing field.

Giving the “green light” to boys to compete with girls in physical sports will inevitably cancel girls’ participation in high school sports. It makes a mockery of girls and nullifies the protections of sex-separated sports afforded by Title IX.

Political correctness is trumping biological correctness and is resulting in outright discrimination against females. It has to stop.

Let’s get real and stop pretending that being a girl is just a “feeling” or a “desire” or a way to “identify.” It’s time to protect and preserve the hard-won rights of girls to compete with girls in female-only sports.
