I have been a part of the pro-life movement for quite a long time now. There have been many different iterations or fads in regards to messaging; whether it be graphic abortion images or pictures of young, smiling babies. Proper language has been debated: unborn became preborn and prochoice became pro-abortion. Are these changes the catalyst that will change the debate? I am not sure, but no matter the delivery, tone, or language the core message has always been the same: abortion kills innocent, unborn babies. But that really isn’t the whole story, is it?
There are two elements that the pro-life movement needs to take into account in order to change the debate: babies AND their mothers. It is a fact that abortion harms women, and you can read more about that here, but the pro-life movement needs to make both women and the lives of their children a priority. It is not enough to emotionally connect society to the reality of the life inside the womb—we must also connect with the life carrying the unborn child as well.
Planned Parenthood’s main message has always been focused on the woman, and their manipulation of reality has made them a trusted brand in women’s healthcare. Their slogan promises women that they will “Care. No Matter What.”
But there’s a big difference between what Planned Parenthood says and what they do.
Their message—powered by massive PR campaigns, friendly media, and allies in the highest levels of government—has resonated with the public. It is time that we set the record straight.
Planned Parenthood doesn’t care about women—they care about money. And there is a ton of information to support that assertion (like here, here, or here, and, of course, here . . . and I could keep going, cause, you know, it’s true), but that is not the point here. The point is that Planned Parenthood is getting support from the public because the public thinks they are caring for women. They are not, but there are some really amazing alternatives that actually DO care about the women they serve.
One such alternative is Online for Life.
While Planned Parenthood claims to offer “services” and “healthcare” for women, Online for Life’s care clinics provide real services for pregnant women in need, such as:
- A free, lab-grade pregnancy test
- A free ultrasound administered by a trained and qualified professional
- Compassionate advice and information about pregnancy
- One-on-one care in a safe, comfortable environment
- Long-term support in the form of financial help, prenatal education and parenting classes, plus access to alcohol and drug abuse counseling, information about women and children’s shelters, adoption services, and support from local churches
Moreover, Online for Life works with 30 of the top-performing pregnancy centers across the country that provide many of these same services. Online for Life’s vision is captured well in their assertion “if we are to end the abortion holocaust that’s been plaguing our nation for more than 40 years, then we must provide life-affirming, best-in-class care that supports the mother and families and protects the child.”
Exactly. It is not enough to just care about the life in the womb; we must care for the mother as well, and Online for Life does both.
Take Action: Unlike Planned Parenthood, Online for Life doesn’t get a penny from the federal government. All of their money comes from people who truly care about saving lives and serving women.
Please, check out Online for Life, and see what they are doing to stop abortion AND care for women.
While claiming to protect women’s health, this legislation fails to acknowledge the physical and mental toll abortion has on women—to say nothing of the unborn female lives being aborted.
This adds another bold pro-abortion move to the list of egregious actions taken by President Biden.
