Abortion Survivor Calls for Congress to Protect Babies Who Are Born Alive

Last week, the House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution and Civil Justice heard testimony regarding the Hyde Amendment and the Born Alive Infants Protection Act.

One of the witnesses was Gianna Jessen, an abortion survivor. Gianna previously testified before a House Judiciary Committee that was reviewing Planned Parenthood's barbaric abortion practices. It was one of the most moving testimonies I’ve ever seen. You can read about it and watch it here.

What it so powerful about bringing someone like Gianna to speak and bear witness is that she went through it—she lived through it. She can speak as the baby who would have been left to die or strangled to death if the abortionist had already been at work. Instead, she received life-saving care, care that should be afforded to all children. We as a nation cannot condone infanticide, which is exactly what it is when babies are left to die simply because an abortionist failed to end the child’s life before it left the womb.

As Gianna said in her powerful and emotional testimony:

“I am greatly troubled that this hearing is even necessary, and that such a law to prevent infanticide must be constructed in the United States of America at all. Many Americans have no idea that babies can even live through abortions and are often left to die. But this does happen. I know this because I was born alive in an abortion clinic after being burned in my mother's womb for 18 hours [from a saline abortion].”

Remember, the goal of an abortion is a dead baby—every time. There is no other acceptable outcome. And if Planned Parenthood and abortion advocates succeed in eliminating the Hyde Act, your tax dollars will be used to support this inhumane practice.

For over 40 years, the Hyde Amendment has banned the use of federal funds (aka our tax dollars) to pay for abortion, except in the case of rape, incest, or when the mom’s life is in danger. The amendment has long received bipartisan support, but that is no longer the case.

Abortion advocates claim Hyde is discriminatory, saying that unless taxpayers pay for abortions, then poor women won’t be able to have them. They and their cronies in Washington want do away with the Hyde Amendment and force the American people to be complicit in this horrific act and support abortion clinics who show complete disregard for human life.

Do we really want to become a nation that refuses to protect the weakest and most vulnerable among us? And not only that, but a nation that financially supports taking innocent lives simply because they have the audacity to exist?  It’s sad—it’s sickening—and it has no place in a just society.

“I have faced the consequences of our choices as a nation (as evidenced by my Cerebral Palsy.) So if you choose to do nothing, I believe I at least deserve to know why you find this abhorrent practice tolerable, and would respectfully ask that you tell me directly,” said Gianna. “It seems in some ways we have lost our way in this beautiful nation. But it needn't be so. We have only to remember that we are lent each breath, that we are all engraved upon the hands of God, and therefore, cannot for a single moment, be forgotten by Him.”

“It needn’t be so.” What a great reminder.

And that’s exactly why it is so important for each of us to do whatever we can to make our voices heard on these issues.

This New Bill Could Mandate Unrestricted Access to Abortion

While claiming to protect women’s health, this legislation fails to acknowledge the physical and mental toll abortion has on women—to say nothing of the unborn female lives being aborted.
